The VDBA is looking forward to another successful season of baseball. We would just like to start out by saying thank you to all of you for signing up as coaches and assistants. We would like to welcome back those returning from last year. All of our coaches displayed strong, positive and knowledgeable leadership throughout the season. The VDBA is best known for it's sportsmanship and is welcome by all of the host tournament cities. Vernon was well represented at all levels of baseball.
One of VDBA's goals this year is to begin to lay the groundwork for consistency within our organization as related to how and what we teach our young athlete's to best enhance their development as ball players within a fun, competitive environment. For the coaches in the T-Ball division (5-6 years old) and the Tadpole division (7-8 years old) we will be hosting a day of simple drills, skill development, expectations as a coach, as well as a demonstration of the pitching machines. At this time we will also hand out the gear bags for the season. This will allow us to start the season off at the same level and help define your roles as coaches and assistants. We look forward to working with all the coaches and assistants as we anticipate the season to be a great experience for all. The VDBA is committed to having a Summer Ball Program for all divisions above T-Ball. We are currently accepting applications for the 2012 Summer Ball Season Coaches. Please e-mail vicepresident@vernonbaseball.com if you are interested. Deadline is March 15, 2012, coaches to be chosen by April 1, 2012. All coaches and assistants will be required to obtain the appropriate NCCP levels. These are outlined by BC Minor Baseball and are required to coach or manage in a zone, summer league, or provincial tournament. The VDBA will reimburse all course fees. The NCCP courses are now available. Please register online @www.baseball.bc.ca click on the Coaches tab. Follow the NCCP links to sign in. All coach & assistant coaches are required to complete a Criminal Record Check before they hit the field. It can take up to eight weeks to complete the Criminal Record Check which needs to be taken to the local RCMP office to be completed. If finger printing is required the $25 fee will be covered by the VDBA. Criminal Record Checks are valid for 3 years and can be a copy of a current record check.
