Midget Division – Marshall Field
Welcome to the 2010 Vernon Midget baseball season. My name is Jim Mottus and I am the returning director for Midget baseball this season. Midget baseball is for players from the ages 15 -17 and has the players on a full size diamond for the first time. Home games are played at Marshall Fields, already one of the nicest parks in the Okanagan with more improvements planned.The other teams in this league include Penticton, Summerland, Kelowna, Salmon Arm, Rutland and Kamloops so some travel will be required. It is likely the games and practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays with some weekend games and practices as well.
Last season Vernon fielded two teams at the Midget level and did very well. I would like to thank last year’s coaches and all the other parent volunteers for all their time and effort to make last season a success.
Making these programs successful and fun takes a lot of work and I would like to encourage any parents and family members to get involved. Whether it is helping with coaching, field maintenance or driving, getting involved with your child’s sports will be rewarding for everyone. VDBA will be conducting coaching clinics for those interested in helping on the field with dates to be announced shortly. The goal is to continue the player’s development encouraging learning, commitment, hard work and most importantly having fun playing a great game. If the numbers are there in both players and coaches it would be great if we can again field two teams at this level. Please register early to help us determine what the numbers will be. We also hope to field a summer ball team at this level this year if the player and parent interest is there.
