2023 AAA / AA / A Head Coach Application

Vernon Baseball is now accepting Head Coach applications for 18U AAA/AA, 15U AA & 13U AAA/AA teams for the 2023 season. Applications must be submitted by November 15th and final selections will be determined by November 25th, 2021. For all divisions, AA & AAA head coaches will be expected to run a single combined season, that includes spring & summer play. Head Coaches will also be required to help organize and run a winter training & development program, utilizing the indoor facility at Marshall, in coordination with the Division Director that should begin around Mid-January.

Vernon Baseball typically will also select Summer Ball Head Coaches for 15U A, 13U A, 11U AAA & A (10 year old players only) and 9U using the same application process & timeline. Head Coaches for these teams will be expected to begin organizing and holding development practices by early April 2023. These head coaches will also be strongly encouraged to help organize and run a winter training & development program, utilizing the indoor facility at Marshall, in coordination with the Division Director that starts well before the Vernon spring season.

Vernon Baseball is committed to ensure that coaches have the support needed to develop strong programs. This will allow them to be competitive, continue to develop the kids and have a realistic chance of winning games with the goal of being Provincial Champions. Their teams will generally have to play in Tournaments over the course of spring & summer and have the opportunity to make trips to the coast for tournaments as well. The BLE, VOC and Coastal tournaments draw better competition and are just an example of the tournaments that are available. Open tournaments across the province can be found at https://www.bcminorbaseball.org/page/show/4575151-tournaments We here in Vernon are also interested in hosting top talent tournaments and would love to work on idea to hosting tournament or even provincials again in 2023. Many of these tournaments need to be registered & paid for in Feb/March, so coaches need to have a plan early in the new year. They are great team building events for players and parents and are supported by Vernon Baseball.
If you have any questions please reach out to the division directors or myself for more information.

COACHES AND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

  • Are you interested in coaching?
  • Have you signed up to coach/volunteer but have no idea where to start?
  • Are you a seasoned veteran having coached for years but looking for some new ideas?

Each year Baseball BC puts on an outstanding coaching clinic, the typical issue is that it
requires travel, overnight stays, and a lot of time. For years any coaches that have gone to the event have always come back saying it was worth the time and energy. Once again, this year due to COVID, the entire coaches clinic will be done virtually-online. 3 days, 23 speakers and a wide range of topics from T-ball to the pros.

The clinic runs March 4-6

The clinic also provides opportunities to complete some of the NCCP coaches training sessions for credits that are required for coaches as they move up in divisions or with coaching summer ball.

If you are interested in honing your coaching skills, or if you have any questions, please reach out.

Vernon Baseball covers the cost for our coaches to attend. Contact your Division Director or myself via email at president@vernonbaseball.com to receive the payment code.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the fields.

Covid 19 Update – May 26th

I am sure most of you have now heard that on Tuesday, May 25th, our PHO orders changed to open us up to game play. This is great news for us and will allow to get some competitive games going very soon. I ask that everyone continue to remain vigilant and continue to follow our existing practice plans for now while I prepare and update our Return to Play documentation and align it with the PHO, Baseball BC and the City of Vernon and Coldstream. I do expect this will take us a few days to ensure the safety of everyone and that we continue to be aligned to the PHO guidelines.

Even though gameplay is being opened up we are still restricted to NO spectators. Team volunteer positions will still be available as we have utilized them over the past few weeks but this does not open us up to filling up the parks. For clarification on what is now allowed see Phase 2 Stage 2 below:

In Phase 2 Stage 2 The following activities are currently permitted;

  • Team training / development (practice)
  • Live batting practice
  • Scrimmage and Inter-squad games
  • In Club game play

The following activities are not permitted;

  • Travel for competition
  • Tournaments

Baseball specific guidelines in place at this time;

  • Participants must maintain a physical distance of three metres from one another when not playing and active in game play.
  • Spectators are not permitted per the current PHO order. (Defined as games, competitions, tournaments, training, or practice).
  • Masks are required in all indoor public settings. (As defined by the current public order)
  • Verbal symptom screening and attendance tracking must be performed daily.
  • Stay home if youre sick.

While this is going on the Executive Board will be meeting on Sunday to put together plans for a schedule and what we will come back to everyone with in terms of the possibility of extending our Spring season. Initially our spring season was intended to run until roughly June 18th. My intention will be to look to a add a few weeks to that season to allow us to get in some competitive games and some type of wrap up. Our division directors will reach out to each division once we have determined the best path forward.

Thank you for your continued patience as we work through this and get competitive play back on our fields.

Michael Sanfilippo
